Clinical Assessment

All patients referred to Qspine will undergo specialist medical assessment including detailed history and clinical examination. Radiology investigations may be required. Then a comprehensive personalised multidisciplinary management plan will be provided and communicated to the patient and referrer.

Spinal Investigations

Patients may require further radiological investigations such as MRI, Xray, CT scan or bone scan. Most radiology investigation will attract some form a specialist Medicare rebate, but sometimes Medicare ineligible examinations are recommended for expediency or availability.

Please be aware that radiology of the spine has limitations, as investigations may show non-specific findings and can be oversensitive at identifying coincidental pathology.

Spinal Interventions

In spinal medicine, precision guided interventional injections have an important role in diagnosis, treatment and pain management. Typical injections include local anaesthetic for diagnosis and short term pain relief from the intervention, and cortisone for diagnosis, medium term pain relief and providing a therapeutic window for enhanced exercise rehabilitation.
When used for diagnostic purposes, these interventions can lead to further treatments such as radio frequency neurotomy or even surgery. Spinal injection interventions can be used in conditions which may heal in the medium term (e.g. sciatic pain) and thus may reduce the need for surgical intervention.
