Alternatively, patients can bring a copy of their referral at the time of their initial appointment, however, we still encourage clinicians to forward duplicate referrals in advance, so that our staff are not spending unnecessary time locating referrals.
General Practitioner Referral
Please include all relevant details, previous treatments and investigations (especially radiological imaging). Dr Young will communicate back to all referrers as soon as is possible.
If referrers are unsure whether your patient would benefit from a Qspine assessment, please call our reception staff, who are able to ask Dr Young if required.
Specialist Referral
Dr Young works collaboratively with local surgical specialists (neurosurgeons and spinal orthopaedic surgeons) and pain management specialists. Dr Young can assess and treat patients who are deemed not suitable for, or not yet ready for surgical treatment. This can help maximise non-operative therapy, even prior to surgery.
Dr Young often investigates the likely source of pain generation for Pain Management and Surgical specialists, prior to returning the patient for in-patient interventional procedures. The referring interventionalist is always fully informed of patient progress.
Communication
After each consultation, Dr Young always communicates in writing with the referring practitioner. This communication will usually include a management plan and if appropriate, this may allow initiation of an multidisciplinary allied health care plan. Your personalised plan will nearly always include exercise advice and sometimes activity prescription as exercise has consistently been shown to be one of the more effective treatments in chronic spinal conditions.
If you would like your patient to be seen urgently for medical reasons – e.g acute pain, neurological deficit or likely semi-urgent injection intervention, then you are encouraged to call our friendly staff and a fast tracked appointment with Dr Young can be arranged.
Unfortunately we are unable to treat spinal and non-spinal problems or multiple musculoskeletal conditions at the same appointment. Some patients may be asked to return with a second referral for their non-spinal conditions
