Visiting Qspine

Your First Consultation

A medical referral from an AHPRA recognised medical practitioner (GP or Specialist) stating a single condition is now required for all patients.

When you arrive for your first appointment at Qspine, our friendly reception team will ask that you fill out your details. These will include full name, date of birth, address, email address, referring practitioner, Medicare number, private health details and your consent for email communication from Qspine relating to your appointment.

Unfortunately, Dr Young can only review one spine problem during a Qspine consultation. If you have other musculoskeletal problems (eg hip, shoulder knee etc), and would like to discuss this with Dr Young, please ask your GP for a separate referral.

Please bring:
– a detailed written medical referral letter to ensure appropriate Medicare rebate. Note allied health referrals are not entitled to Consultant Physician rebates.
– relevant radiological investigations (preferably films rather than reports)

Before your initial appointment you may be asked to complete a questionnaire regarding your current condition.

Follow Up Consultation

Follow up consultations will be required for results, interventions and treatment planning. The length of these appointments will vary depending on the complexity of the appointment and the intervention being undertaken.

Video or Telehealth Consultations

In certain circumstances Dr Young will advise if a telehealth or video consultation is suitable for your follow-up. Please be aware that an out of pocket gap fee is charged and Medicare rebates are often reduced.

Booking Appointments

All appointments are booked at the main office in Herston, Brisbane.

Currently waiting times for new patients are usually greater than 5 weeks. If you believe that you have an urgent problem (including acute pars stress fracture) – please call the clinic directly with a detailed written referral to discuss with our staff.

To book an appointment:

  • Telephone 1300077767 or 07 38311908
  • Emailing reception on reception@qsports.com.au and including a return phone number

Our reception hours are from 8:30am to 5:00pm Monday to Friday. We are closed on weekends. However, you can leave a recorded message after hours for our staff to return the following working day.

If you do have to cancel an appointment, we will try to reschedule another as soon as is convenient. Please be aware that there may be a cancellation fee if the appointment is cancelled within 24 hours of the appointment or you fail to attend after confirmation.

Alternatives to Surgery

On occasions, there may be alternatives to surgical treatment with further evidence-based rehabilitation, interventional injections and pain management techniques. Dr Young is happy to provide an opinion on whether alternative treatment is a genuine option.

Reports & Certificates

Patients who require a detailed report for insurance, employment or legal reasons, should arrange this through their solicitor. Please be away that these reports may be charged at the AMA rate and are not eligible for Medicare rebates. If short personal insurance reports are required (e.g income protection) a small fee will be charged. They can not be completed at the time of consultation.

Please be aware that in general, all certificates (e.g Work Cover, sick certificates) are usually provided by your general practitioner. These should be discussed at the time of your consultation.

Doctors and staff at Qspine can issue an attendance certificate on the day of appointment.

Cost of Consultations

The Qspine consultation fees are generally above the Medicare Schedule Fee but less than the AMA Recommended Fee for Consultant Physicians.  This means that an out of pocket fee should be expected.  All payments must be made at time of the consultation.

Qspine consultations are not bulk billed for pensioners/health care card holders or DVA card holders. However, if you do have a pension/health care or DVA card (specifying the condition) a small discount on standard fees may be available. Please discuss this before your consultation.

Accounts are not provided for insurers or organisations, unless there is in written confirmation in advance that they will be responsible.  Please discuss this when booking your appointment.

Private health insurance does not cover doctors’ fees but may provide rebates for allied health providers e.g physiotherapy, exercise physiology, nutrition services and chiropractors.

We generally write management plans to your referring doctor, who may determine that you are eligible for a Medicare Chronic Disease Plan.

Please call the reception team on 07 3831 1908 if you wish to discuss further.
